What is a Mandatory Sign?
Mandatory signs specify an instruction that must be carried out to vehicles, workers, visitors to sites and any other people that might need to know the instruction. These can be used in construction sites, building sites, mine sites and warehouses. Symbols (or pictograms") are depicted in white on a blue-coloured circular background. Sign wording is printed in black to give clear instructions. Often mandatory signs can be used in conjunction with other signs, traffic lights and bollards as visual communication to workers, drivers, pedestrians, visitors and people regarding risks.
When should cylinders be chained?
Compressed gas cylinders stored under pressure present a danger to employees in the workplace and must be chained securely to walls in an upright position to prevent explosions and spontaneous combustion. Where these goods are stored, a mandatory sign should be erected to inform workers of the requirement to chain all cylinders.
