Frequently Asked Questions
Where should I store my defibrillator?
It is recommended the Lifepak CR2 Essential Semi Auto AED is stored indoors in a location that is readily accessible for regular maintenance checks and in case of emergency. Lockable and alarmed defibrillator cabinets are available which can protect the defibrillator (AED) and allow it to be placed in convenient public areas.
The defibrillator (AED) should be placed in a high-visibility, frequently-traveled area. This could include a location near existing emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first-aid kits. In the workplace, employees should be informed as to the defibrillator location. Placing the defibrillator in a central location will help everyone get used to seeing it so they know where to find it in an emergency. You can place your defibrillator on a stable surface, or in an AED cabinet (Lockable and Alarmed AED Cabinets - Available Here)
If the defibrillator is placed in a surface-mounted cabinet, ensure sufficient space to avoid protruding into the path of travel for anyone walking or in a wheelchair. When considering location, avoid areas that expose the defibrillator to moisture, dust, or extreme temperatures. The recommended storage temperature is 15° to 35°C; however, long-term storage at the higher temperatures in this range may reduce the life of the electrodes. Storage at high temperatures will also reduce the life of the battery. (Lifepak CR2 Essential AED Operating Instructions, Page 29)
How does a defibrillator work?
A defibrillator (AED) will only deliver a shock to a person with a shockable heart rhythm; the person using an AED on a patient must follow any verbal or visual prompts displayed on the AED until medical treatment arrives.
The Lifepak CR2 Essential Defibrillator acts as a CPR coach. It provides instructions for adult and paediatric CPR, including feedback when no CPR is detected, rate and depth guidance, a metronome and instructions on hand placement. The Semi-Automatic Lifepak CR2 Essential Defibrillator : Delivers energy when button pressed by the use. (Lifepak CR2 Essential AED Operating Instructions, Page 14)
How to place a defibrillator on a patient?
The Lifepak CR2 Essential Defibrillator has a layered design with easy to follow bold graphics. Both trained and untrained AED users clearly know how to begin and where to place electrode pads.
Is this defibrillator portable?
Yes, the Lifepak CR2 Essential Semi-Auto AED is lightweight (weighing only 2.0kg) and is supplied with a carry bag.
Is this child friendly?
Lifepak CR2 Essential Semi-Automatic AED features a button which allows the operator to switch to Child Mode for reduced energy and CPR guidance appropriate for children. (Lifepak CR2 Essential AED Operating Instructions, Page 15)
What does it mean when a defibrillator claims “fastest time to first shock”?
^Defibrillators (AED) can require time to charge in order to deliver higher energy shocks. The Lifepak CR2 Essential Semi Auto AED requires 0 seconds to deliver shocks of 150J or 200J (as device is pre-charged). (Lifepak CR2 Essential AED Operating Instructions, Page 118)
Does a defibrillator need a maintenance check each time it’s used in an emergency?
After use, the defibrillator should be checked for dirt or contamination and cleaned if necessary. The electrode pads are a single-use item and must be replaced after each use. For more information see page 39 of the Operating Instructions. (Lifepak CR2 Essential AED Operating Instructions, Page 39)
